PET is the ultimate sustainable choice.

PET is energy-saving, economical to make, and safe to use. Containers are light, damage resistant, and easily shapeable, allowing you to create a multitude of forms. PET is particularly good for enhancing product visibility with transparent containers. In addition, PET is fully recyclable, making it even more appealing to image conscious sellers and buyers alike. Consumers can identify PET containers by the triangular #1bresin identification code found on the bottom of PET bottles and jars.

PET containers are manufactured in a single-stage or two-stage process. The single-stage process combines the injection and blow molding processes of preforms. The two-stage process involves separate injection for the preforms and separate blow molding, during which the preform is stretched and blown to its final shape. In many cases more than one technology is used. Graham’s technologies are all patented and proprietary, employing different barrier materials and processes to reach the best solution.

Polyolefins offer many material choices with applications that encompass virtually every product, venue, and industry. Polyolefin is lightweight, absorbs added color effectively, provides thermal stability for hot-fill and cold-fill items alike, and is recyclable. It's easy to dye and mold, and is a non-polar, odorless, and non-porous material. Common Polyolefins are Polypropylene, High-Density Polyethylene (HDPE), and Medium-Density Polyethylene (MDPE). Polypropylene is the world's second-most widely produced synthetic plastic, after polyethylene.

We currently produce more than 1 billion aseptic packages worldwide. Fully aseptic packages are blown and sealed in the blow moulding process such that the bottle is under pressure when delivered to a customer. Semi-aseptic packages are supplied with a very small hole in the top of the bottle. In this case, packages are rinsed with a sterilant and filled in an aseptic environment in order to maintain sterility. It’s typically used as an alternative to high-temperature sterilization for quickly perishable items such as dairy products.

Graham has decades of co-extrusion experience producing world-class quality containers. Our proprietary multilayer flow head systems enable high-speed production with minimum material variations. Graham uses its multilayer technology for a number of beneficial reasons:

  • Food safety: To protect the product filled into the bottle from degradation. A product may degrade or have an 'off' taste when in contact with oxygen, and hence, a passive barrier material is added to the bottle to protect its contents. Barriers can also be used in order to avoid flavor taints on products.
  • Chemical protection: To protect the environment from a chemical stored in the container. In this case, the barrier prevents the leakage of the chemical to the outside of the container.
  • Sustainability: To allow for the usage of recycled material in a package or to allow for a reduced plastic content by the addition of an inorganic filler.

In addition to the proprietary multilayer structures described above, Graham uses blends of materials with PET where an active barrier absorbs oxygen.
